I’m Alec Townsend, and Barren Studios is more than a brand; it’s a living project. Based in Blackwood, New Jersey, our homestead is where traditional values meet modern craftsmanship. What started as a personal passion has grown into a family mission: to create things that last, to grow things that matter, and to build a legacy that our children can be proud of.

In the Workshop: Woodworking & Heritage

Every piece of wood has a story. In our studio, we focus on functional art—from custom shop projects to handcrafted heirloom pieces that bring a sense of heritage back into the modern home. On the Land: Roots & Family

A true homestead is a closed loop and a classroom. We are dedicated to sustainable food production, raising heritage poultry including chickens, turkeys, and quail. Our garden is our sanctuary where we teach our family the value of a hard day’s work. By cultivating seasonal staples like heirloom tomatoes and garlic, we ensure that what we put on our family table is as high-quality as the artisan goods we put on our shop shelves.
